This month, we will be profiling some of our favorite jewelry designers. We thought this was the perfect time of year to introduce you to the designers and their lines, as a piece of jewelry is a wonderful holiday gift! Meet our last designer below…..
Stacey Lapidus, a former accessories editor at Vanity Fair and a founding member of bagborroworsteal.com, designs girlish pieces with a sophisticated edge. Her line of jewelry and accessories has a huge celebrity following and is a favorite with editors and stylish city girls. We sat down with Stacey at her recent editor preview at her NYC showroom to get the scoop….
CDC: What is your design inspiration?
SL: My friends and I inspire me! I create pieces we would want to wear.
CDC: What is the must-have piece from your line this collection?
SL: I love my crystal braided belts, they are excellent for layering and add a bit of sparkle. The studded bracelets and bangles are also classics that look great stacked. (See image below!)
CDC: Where do you shop in New York?
SL: I go to Barneys for everything. I love anything from Marni, Marc Jacobs and Miu Miu. On the days I can’t afford them, I substitute Urban Outfitters which has it all for less.
CDC: What is on your holiday wish list?
SL: I have been eyeing a pair of navy blue leather boots from Calypso for months. The Hudson Street location is right by my apartment, so I visit them often!

Ashley Dodgen-McCormick designs a line of gorgeous jewels under the charming nickname Asha, coined by her Cuban grandparents. Ashley’s 18K yellow and white gold line integrates her signature quatrefoil detail with semi-precious stones and natural materials. She recently made the natural progession to handbags, with variations on the iconic clutch in exotic materials that are sure to become classics.
CDC: What is your design inspiration?
ADM: The classics, art and architecture.
CDC: What is the must-have piece from your line this collection?
ADM: The classic clutch in python with moonstone cabochons, and my cabochon cuff in white. (See image below!)
CDC: Where do you shop in New York?
ADM: Chanel, Jonathon Adler and Greenwich Letterpress.
CDC: What is on your holiday wish list?
ADM: A trip to the Amanpuri in Thailand!

Covet is an chic subterreanean boutique in the West Village which houses the 14K and 18K gold designs of Alexa Garner Sidaris. This clean, uncluttered space beautifully displays Alexa’s necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings, which often feature a dusting of diamonds. Call to set up a personal appointment with co-owner Alexis Mack, and you are sure to find a jewel you will ‘covet’.
CDC: What is your design inspiration?
AGS: For the new Spring 08 collection, I was mostly inspired by the birth of my son. This required me to scale back, fine tune and simplify everything in my life. I think it’s reflected most in the simplicity and clean lines of the new collection.
CDC: What is the must-have piece from your line this collection?
AGS: My must-have piece for the season is my Hand-cut Mother-of-Pearl and Diamond Earrings….chic and earthy all in one. (See below image!)
CDC: Where do you shop in New York? AGS: I like stores in the Meatpacking District…they are so airy and they have great modern design aesthetic.
CDC: What is on your holiday wish list? ADS: An 18K rose gold Rolex Oyster Perpetual or, more reasonably, Dior python and leather heels.
