Our Top Looks: Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive (so movie star) Cameron Diaz in Chanel Haute Couture (amazing color worn with casual cool) and January Jones in Versace (another fabulous color worn in old Hollywood glamour, with pockets!)….all with red lips!, Marissa Tomei in Oscar de la Renta (taking a risk that works, love the blouse and maxi skirt as opposed to a gown, accessories are right on)

Our Honorable Mentions: Eva Mendes in Christian Dior (evokes a statue, love the oversize turquoise jewelry – stunning with hot whote dress and dark latin skin), Kristin Scott Thomas in Lanvin (Parisian easy elegance, sophisticated and age-appropriate), Olivia Wilde in Reem Acra (fresh and not too serious, perfect hair and makeup), Evan Rachel Wood in vintage Elie Saab haute couture (cool aloof glamour, the contrast of pale skin with black shine, looked like she was floating!)

Mataano, meaning ‘twins’ in Somali, is a line of bold dresses designed by identical twin sisters Ayaan and Idyl Mohallim. The sisters, who have already been guests on Oprah along with another twin pair, The Olsens, launched this season with a 10 dress capsule collection. The line features intense, vibrant solids and colorful prints and expresses their multicultural background and ideals, suited for “the woman as a global citizen” according to Idyl. We couldn’t agree more – we will be packing a few Mataano dresses, a few bathing suits and our passports this winter for resort!

What better way to ring in the New Year than with sun, sand, and sake in party-centric Miami! Quite a few New Yorkers fled the dropping mercury for the summer temperatures down south this year. Daily flights, cheap tickets and a short ride make Miami a fabulous destination for any winter weekend as well.

What to Pack: Miami’s laid-back atmosphere is perfect for bringing out your ‘fun’ pieces; things you wouldn’t think to wear to dinner at the Waverly or a night out on the Lower East Side. Floridians are never afraid of color so ditch your basic black and compliment your bright hues with crisp white. Beaches and boats area a Miami must (those in Key Biscayne are especially beautiful and exclusive) so bring plenty of bathing suits, cover-ups and sandals. Dinner and drinks at Casa Tua calls for cocktail dresses for women and dress shirts and linens pants for men.
Where to Shop: There a lot of small vintage stores tucked away in South Beach, such as Sasparilla. Just off Lincoln Road this small boutique carries vintage Dior, Gucci and Pucci and amazing prices. Bal Harbor boasts all the big names (Oscar de la Renta, Chloe, Graff, Loro Piana, Tod’s, Saks, Neiman Marcus) in an open-air shopping center filled with tropical gardens and great restaurants – a perfect escape during a short afternoon storm. Thomas Maier (creative director of Bottega Veneta, of course) is also a must see, a little piece of simplicity and luxury in a sometimes over-the-top city.
